Still In Pain After Rest, Injections And “Just Do These Exercises”? There’s A Reason.
Chronic tendon and joint pain doesn’t heal on its own because the tissue has stopped trying. Shockwave and EMTT restart that healing process — no needles, no surgery, no downtime. Right here in Chula Vista, delivered by a Doctor of Physical Therapy.

Does This Sound Like You?
You’ve Been Told To “Give It Time.” It’s Been Months.
✓ Heel pain that’s worst on your first steps out of bed
✓ A shoulder that aches all night and wakes you up
✓ Elbow pain that flares every time you grip something
✓ Knee pain that shows up on stairs and hills
✓ An Achilles or calf that never fully came back
✓ Hip or glute pain that’s changed how you walk
✓ You’ve already tried rest, ice, braces and new shoes
✓ You’ve been offered a cortisone shot — or already had one
✓ Someone has used the word “surgery” and you’re not ready
✓ You’ve quietly stopped doing things you used to love
If you nodded at three or more of these, shockwave was built for exactly your problem.
The Real Problem
Why Nothing You’ve Tried Has Fixed It
Most of what’s offered for chronic tendon pain either quiets the symptom or waits for a healing response that never comes. Tendons and fascia have poor blood supply to begin with. Once an injury goes past about six weeks, the body often stops treating it as an injury at all — it just adapts around it.
That’s why you can rest for three months and feel great — then hurt again on day two of activity. Nothing actually changed in the tissue.
✗ Rest and time offRemoves the load, not the problem. Pain returns with activity.
✗ Ice, braces, new shoesManage symptoms. They don’t create new blood supply.
✗ Stretching and rollingFeels good for an hour. Doesn’t change degenerated tissue.
✗ Cortisone injectionsPowerful short-term relief — but repeated shots can weaken tendon over time.
✗ High-volume “3x a week” PTLoading a tendon that has no healing capacity yet often just aggravates it.
The Science
What Shockwave Therapy Actually Does
Shockwave therapy delivers high-energy acoustic pressure waves into the injured tissue. Those waves create a controlled, microscopic stimulus that the body reads as a fresh injury — which restarts the healing cascade that stalled out months ago.

Wakes Up The Tissue
Acoustic energy creates controlled microtrauma in chronically injured tendon, fascia and muscle — signalling the body that there is something here worth repairing.
Builds New Blood Supply
The treated area releases growth factors that trigger new blood vessel formation. More blood flow means the nutrients and cells needed for repair can finally reach the area.
Breaks Down Scar & Calcification
The same energy helps break up calcium deposits and disorganized scar tissue, and appears to desensitize the local pain nerve endings that keep the area on high alert.
A typical treatment takes 5 to 10 minutes on the area. Most people feel a deep thumping pressure, and some soreness for a day or two afterward. You walk in, you walk out, you drive yourself home.
What Makes Us Different
Most Clinics Have One Machine. We Use Three.
“Shockwave” isn’t one thing. Focused and radial waves do different jobs at different depths — and EMTT reaches tissue that neither one can. Using them together is why our results look different from a clinic running a single device.

Focused Shockwave (ESWT)
Pinpoint energy that penetrates deep — up to several centimeters. This is what reaches a deep hip tendon, a calcific rotator cuff or a stubborn insertion point that a surface device can’t touch.
Radial Shockwave (EPAT)
Broader, more superficial energy that covers a whole region — ideal for plantar fascia, IT band, calf and forearm. Excellent for widespread soreness and trigger points.
EMTT Magnetotransduction
High-energy magnetic pulses that pass through the entire joint painlessly, targeting inflammation and cell repair at a depth and volume shockwave alone cannot reach. Completely painless.
Shockwave + EMTT together is our standard protocol — not an upsell, and not something you’ll find at most clinics in the South Bay.

What Actually Happens When You Come In

1
The 27-Point Assessment
A Doctor of Physical Therapy examines you — not an aide, not a screen. We test movement, strength, load tolerance and the actual pain-producing structure so we know what we’re treating and why.
2
A Straight Answer
You’ll hear what’s wrong in plain English, whether shockwave is the right tool for it, how many sessions it typically takes, and what it costs. If you’re not a good candidate, we say so.
3
Your Plan — And Your First Treatment
Most clients need 4 to 6 sessions, roughly once a week. Each visit is 20–30 minutes. Treatment is combined with the right loading program so the new tissue you build actually holds up.

Your Doctor
Dr. Chris Garcia, PT, DPT, SCS, CSCS
Dr. Garcia founded Sports Performance Physical Therapy in Chula Vista in 2014. He’s a board-certified Sports Clinical Specialist — a credential held by a small fraction of physical therapists nationwide — and has served as a physical therapist for the United States Olympic Committee, worked in rehab roles with NFL Combine training, and traveled as the private therapist for professional tennis players in Europe.
He brought that same standard of care back to his own community. Today his focus is on people in their 40s, 50s and 60s who don’t want to be told their pain is just age — parents who want to keep up with their kids, stay on the course, and stay off the operating table.

I broke my foot in September and wanted to heal as fast as possible… We did two sessions a week for three weeks. I was back to running full-time in November — only off my broken foot for two months, with pretty much no restrictions, no pain. I don’t think PT alone could have helped my bone heal faster.
— Alicia, 43 · broken foot · Shockwave + EMTT
My knee pain was a seven out of ten, sometimes eight. It stopped me running, squatting, even kicking the ball with my son… The most helpful has been the shockwave therapy. I felt that stuff instantly. Next day I was able to get out of bed normal — and I was able to run again.
— Eduardo, 48 · chronic knee pain
The pain was almost instantly gone — the tightness, the soreness, the aching in the joints. I’m able to open and close my hands more freely than I had in the last six to nine months. The relief has been by far the greatest of any other treatment I’ve had.

Questions
Before You Book
Does shockwave therapy hurt?
You’ll feel a firm, deep thumping — most clients describe it as intense but tolerable, and we adjust intensity throughout. Treatment on the area lasts about 5 to 10 minutes. Some soreness for a day or two afterward is normal and is actually part of the healing response.
How many sessions will I need?
Most conditions respond in 4 to 6 sessions, typically once a week. Longstanding or deeper problems sometimes need more. You’ll get a realistic number when we speak — before you commit to anything.
How soon will I feel a difference?
Many clients notice a change within 2 to 3 sessions. Because shockwave works by rebuilding tissue rather than numbing pain, the biggest improvements often continue for weeks after the final session.
Is there any downtime?
None. You drive yourself home and go back to your day. We usually ask you to avoid high-impact activity for 24 to 48 hours after each session so the healing response isn’t interrupted.
Do you take my insurance?
We are a cash-pay, out-of-network clinic by design — it’s what lets you get an hour with an actual doctor instead of 15 minutes and a visit cap. Most insurers don’t cover shockwave anyway. We give you the full cost up front, and we can provide documentation for HSA/FSA or out-of-network reimbursement.
Who is NOT a candidate for shockwave?
Shockwave is generally not appropriate over active infection or open wounds, over a known tumor, in people on blood thinners or with a bleeding disorder, during pregnancy, or directly over growth plates in children. We screen all of this before we ever treat you.
What's the difference between shockwave and EMTT?
Shockwave uses acoustic pressure waves and is targeted to a specific structure. EMTT uses high-energy magnetic pulses that pass painlessly through an entire joint or region, reaching depth and volume that shockwave can’t. We use them together because they do different jobs.
I already had a cortisone shot / I'm scheduled for surgery. Is it too late?
Not usually. Many of our clients come to us after cortisone wore off, or while weighing a surgical recommendation. Bring your imaging and reports when you come in and we’ll give you a straight assessment of whether shockwave is a realistic option for your case.
